Torrone (nougat) and typical sweets

It was the Arabs who brought torrone along the coasts of the Mediterranean, to Italy and to Spain, apparently during the 12th century. Then each country developed its production in accordance with local tastes. In Sardinia Torrone is really something special, because it is made using entirely genuine, simple ingredients such as Sardinian honey made from Mediterranean brush plants, dried fruit and egg white.

This soft chewy sweet, ivory white in colour, is produced for no less than 90% at Tonara, a typical small town surrounded by hazelnut and chestnut groves, at 1000 m asl amongst the mountains of the Barbagia region. The characteristics of this product and its ingredients, all completely natural, make Sardinian Torrone a wholesome, healthy treat. Apart from Torrone, Smeralda also proposes other traditional Sweets and Pastries from our island, such as Amaretti, Gueffos, Pabassini and Pan’e Saba, all having unique, unforgettable flavours.
